research on border crossings

To better understand each border crossing, I looked though all the existing border crossings between Canada and US, then put them into 13 categories depending on the characteristics and similarity of their layout. for each category, I studied the prominent characteristics and problems of the same category.

Experience Chart

Evaluating the waiting time and experience of each category, and then locate them on the horizontal and vertical axis. The information of waiting time comes from the online rating, the description of passengers and the Usage frequency of the road. The quantification of crossing experience is weighted overlay according to the scores of four aspects (view, service, aggregation and infrastructure).

Mirroring&Sharing Condition

The mirroring condition is the most typical border crossing type that more than half of the crossings fits in this category; Symmetrical perpendicular to the road, Land ownership is very clear.
